In October 1987, history was made with the establishment of XIMB (Xavier Institute of Management Bhubaneswar), which has since evolved into the flagship institution of XIM University. Over the course of 36 years, this institute has solidified its reputation as one of the nation's premier business schools, focusing on research and innovation to shape the future of management education in India. Consistently ranked among the top five institutions for intellectual capital, XIM University is dedicated to pushing the boundaries of knowledge.

In July 2014, XIM University marked a significant milestone with the inauguration of its New Campus, symbolizing a commitment to extending its educational reach. Currently, the university is home to twelve schools, offering a wide array of programs, including Doctoral, Masters, and Undergraduate programs.

XIM University has a resolute mission to inspire the next generation of students, offering high-quality higher education across various fields. The institution provides a comprehensive range of programs, encompassing Business Management, Human Resource Management, Rural Management, Sustainability Management, Communications, Computer Science & Engineering, Economics, Commerce, Law, Governance & Public Affairs, Human Settlements, and Liberal Arts. In April 2021, Xavier University was officially renamed XIM University through the Xavier University, Odisha (Amendment) Act 2021. This change was driven by the university's desire to retain the renowned 'XIM' brand name, which has been recognized in India and around the world for 36 years since its inception in 1987. The 'XIM' brand name holds significant value in the business world, among corporations, transformational leaders, and growth sectors.

XIM has brought prestige and honor to the state of Odisha and has contributed to the nation through its extensive network and relationships. As XIM University, it continues to uphold its reputation for providing high-quality education and prepares students for promising careers both in India and abroad.
